Used heavy equipment from the USA · Australia
An excavator or dozer from the US auction market has to clear three gates to reach Australia: DAFF cleanliness, stink bug treatment in season, and asbestos on older units. We handle all three at origin. We import used US heavy equipment — we sell nothing and hold no stock — verify each machine before purchase, and clear it through Australian customs rather than leaving it at the wharf.
Meridian delivers a verified, cleaned, treated and screened machine to the Australian port. Your licensed broker owns the customs entry, tariff classification and GST.
Process
A heavy move to Australia is planned from the machine's footprint and its biosecurity risk together. We verify it at origin, clean and screen it, treat it in season, then match it to flat rack or break-bulk for the sailing.
Listing or spec sheet, plus weight and dimensions if you have them. Excavator, loader or dozer: the measurements and the build year drive both the freight and the asbestos screening.
Undercarriage, hours, condition and completeness are checked before any money moves. We clean to the DAFF standard with photo evidence, and pre-2003 machines are screened for asbestos before purchase.
For 1 September–30 April sailings we arrange offshore stink bug treatment by an approved provider. Flat rack or break-bulk is chosen by the machine's true weight and dimensions, with heavy-lift handling at origin.
A licensed Australian broker files the entry and clears the machine. Self-propelled earthmoving machines are generally duty-free; 10% GST is paid at import and is creditable for registered businesses.
Scope
We separate the international leg we control from the local costs and formalities your despachante confirms.
Quote
With the machine's real numbers and build year we can commit to a load format, the biosecurity plan and an Australian landed cost instead of a protective range.
Share the machine and the destination; we send back the scope of the international leg in writing.
Local compliance
We quote the international leg; Australia prices the entry. A licensed Australian customs broker confirms the tariff line and GST for your specific machine per shipment — self-propelled earthmoving machines are generally free of import duty, with 10% GST payable on the landed value and creditable for GST-registered businesses. Every machine must meet the DAFF cleanliness standard; US-origin cargo shipped 1 September–30 April needs offshore BMSB treatment; and Australia enforces a total asbestos ban on presence, so pre-2003 machines are screened at origin. Western Australia adds a state-level DPIRD inspection.
Meridian has coordinated more than 1,000 exports to more than 40 countries.
