How the estimate is built

The calculator estimates the part of the trip that Meridian Freight controls, from a US ZIP code to the destination shown, in US dollars: a seaport for most countries, and the rail terminal in Kostanay or Kokshetau for Kazakhstan. What it shows depends on how the machine travels, and it shows each line separately.

In a 40 ft high-cube container (for example a tractor): three lines: U.S. inland transport to the packing yard in Albion, Iowa, packing and loading, and ocean freight.

Whole on a flat rack (for example a combine): two lines: U.S. inland transport to a US port, and one sea freight and loading line that already contains packing, loading and marine insurance, so the calculator shows no separate packing line.

What moves each line: Equipment type and size set the packing line. The destination and the route set the ocean line: the cheapest route comes first and the carrier preference only breaks ties. The ZIP code sets the inland line, which is priced by distance. A flat rack estimate needs the declared equipment value, because the insurance inside the sea line is calculated on it.

What it leaves out: The freight total ends at the destination shown. Import duties, taxes and customs clearance are not in it, nor is delivery beyond that point. Where the calculator has an import profile for the country, it shows an "Indicative import-cost estimate" on a separate line, "Separate from freight", and the buyer's licensed broker confirms the final figures. For countries with no rate in the chosen mode, the calculator offers an individual quote by WhatsApp or email. The one exception is Kazakhstan, where Meridian can also handle clearance, duty and VAT as a turnkey delivery, on request and by quote.

Two dated examples, October 2026: the calculator's own output from central Iowa to Paranaguá, Brazil, on the cheapest route. A combine shipped whole on a flat rack with an equipment value of $100,000: inland $10,203, sea freight and loading $12,670, estimated total $22,873. A tractor packed at Albion in a 40 ft high-cube container: inland $528, packing and loading $4,000, ocean freight $5,400, estimated total $9,928. Captured October 25, 2026. Rates change, so the calculator above prices with current rates.
