John Deere 9760 STS - Flat Rack Shipment to Ukraine
2019 case study: a John Deere 9760 STS combine shipped on a 40-ft flat rack instead of Ro-Ro, cutting the estimated cost, then routed via Savannah to Odesa.
The client independently purchased the combine in Illinois. Ro-Ro transportation was considered, but Meridian selected a 40-ft Flat Rack plan that reduced the estimated transportation cost by approximately $3,500. Before Meridian received the machine, the selling dealer had removed the unloading auger and secured it along the side of the combine to reduce the shipping dimensions. Meridian later determined that this work was not required for the selected Flat Rack arrangement, but the preparation had already been completed and the auger remained secured in that position for transport. Meridian loaded and lashed the combine on the Flat Rack and coordinated the route through Savannah to Odesa. Transit time was approximately 40 days. Meridian's responsibility ended at the Port of Odesa, and no delay, damage or route change was reported before the machine entered service.
